I've upgraded my Pearl to the latest T-Mobile OS release, and now I'm seeing the same problems reported by Cingular users - I can connect once, but once I disconnect I'm unable to reconnect unless I pull the battery on my phone. Boo.
At least I have something to test against now. Here's hoping there's a simple solution. |

| This is my first forum ever so I am not sure exactly how this works. My pearl is doing exactly what it appears Grant's is doing with the newest software update from T-mob (through T-mo's upgrade). I use to use this all the time with a PC running XP (not even the same-I know). I can connect once but as soon as I stop actively loading pages the server seems to quit responding and never does again until I do a bunch of messing around and rebooting of both Mac & Pearl. Then it works again for a moment and again starts the problem over. Anything anyone can figure out will be a huge help. Thanks to everyone who has figured this out thus far. PS: I just bought my first MacBook 2.16 Core2duo and am trying to transition from XP. Ups and Downs, but my new Mac is amazing! |

Last week I updated to the BB Pearl 4.2.1.107 software and tethering my Pearl became very flakey. It would work for a short time and then no more data would flow and OSX struggled to disconnect from it. The only way to get data flowing again was to remove the battery. And then I could get only one session out of it before it would lock up again.
So I decided to go back to an older version of the BlackBerry software and luckily that seems to have fixed the problem.
There are downgrade instructions here:
http://blackberryfaq.com/index.php/How_do_I_downgrade_the_OS_on_my_BlackBerry%3F
I chose the TIM Italy site from the list and at the bottom of their download page I found the 4.2.0.75/4.2.0.64 software. After I installed this software tethering to my 8100 Pearl started working fine again.
Whew, that is a big relief since I need to use it everyday on the train to and from San Francisco. |

Just wanted to let other people know that downgrading also solved by connection (bluetooth tether, Leopard, MacBook) problems. Connecting more than once now works reliably and pulling the battery after each connection isn't necessary.
I was using v4.2.1.107 (T-Mobile provided)
And am now using v4.2.0.75 (TIM Italy)
The only problem with v4.2.0.75 is that I cannot find a compatible version of the Desktop Manager for Windows that works with this OS version (I also sync and tether with Windows sometimes). v4.2 Desktop Manager crashes when I plug in the Blackberry, v4.1 doesn't react when I plug in the Blackberry. Oh well. |
