Thank you Grant. If you would like me to do any testing, feel free to let me know. I really want this to work yesterday, so I will help in any way I can.

Grant,
This script would help me out so much i'm very excited to start using it however i am encountering a problem while setting it up. I downloaded the script for the 8830 verizon blackberry to my modem script file. When it comes to the step where i have to choose to use my bluetooth for phonebook and internet it does not give me an opportunity to select highest speed internet. it does'nt give me an option for anything but internet and phonebook. If i continue through anyway and select your script it doesnt give me a option to put in anything but user, pass and phone number. Any suggestions would be really help me out from anyone.

The 8830 is a CDMA phone that needs a different script than the GSM scripts I've published. You can use the Sprint PCS Vision script that's included with all recent versions of OS X.

I just don't know what the heck is wrong. I had the 8800 tethered perfectly to my MBP while running OS 10.49. Then I upgraded to Leopard and everything fell apart. I downloaded the new scripts and put the entire Blackberry.ccl folder in the modem scrips folder. No success. Then I wiped away my setps and tried to start all over via the earlier instructions. Just like PRENTZIS, I can't seem to find a field to put in GRPS CID. Any help you can provide would be immensely appreciated. I've spent hours of frustrating efforts on this, without success.

prentzis: CDMA phones should use the Sprint PCS Vision script that's included with Leopard - CID is a GSM thing that doesn't apply to Sprint/Verizon.

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I managed to get my situation resolved. Couple of things that might help others that have upgraded to Leopard.

1. Make sure and remove the old 8800 script.
2. The entire Blackberry.ccl folder that Grant mentions elsewhere is dropped into the modem scripts folder. Don't pull the individual script file or any other folder or file out of that folder.
3. For first-timers, carefully follow the instructions in the very first post. It's easy to make a mistake because several different mobile services are identified as well as the Blackberry Pearl.
My grateful thanks to Grant who addressed another problem separately I was having with the bluetooth assistant setup.

I have scoured the internet and this forum for help, but I must admit defeat and appeal to you kind folks for help. I am trying to tether my 8820 to my new MacBook Pro running OS X 10.5.1.

Although the mac seems to be talking to the phone, it is not completing the connection. Here is the relevant part of the log:

Are you still having this problem? Usually I see that error in areas of low connectivity, or if the user doesn't have a tethering package as part of their plan.

for for t-mobile put in wap.voicestream.com
i u/n and password I used guest/guest.

I'm actually using my 8800 now to connect and using my macbook pro.

using leopard with Pearl 8100 on Rogers (Canada). Get the exact same problem as others. Sent a request to Rogers but don't expect to get a reply that makes sense. They never do. Anyone get any ideas as I couldn't seem to find a response that worked, other than might be carrier blocking.

There was a post about echo response too, but I can't seem to find anuywhere to configure that. or did I dream it?

Meant to add I performed a trace route in the minute or so I was connected. It was hitting a couple of hosts at 142.146.x.x and then one at 172.25.32.98 before disappearing into a blackhole. Clearly, there was some TCP and to me, this does sound like some sort of blocking but will defer to anyone else's knowledge which is sure to be greater than mine.

Try this: Go to Network Preferences, select the Bluetooth connection on the left, then click the 'Advanced...' button on the bottom right. Go to the PPP tag and select 'Configuration' from the pulldown, then tick 'Use Verbose Logging'. (While you're there, untick 'Send PPP Echo Packets' if it's ticked.) Post the verbose log snippet here and I'll see what I can do. Those LCP reject messages are likely the source pf the problem; the verbose logging will hopefully show what's being rejected.

Grant, firstly, many thanks for your prompt and courteous offer of assistance. You are filling a niche that the carriers seem unwilling to fill.

Since I wrote the post, I searched and found that I *maybe* needed the TCP options (config/advanced/tcp) set to reflect the apn/user/pwd. This I set, but hte post I read said to use an APN of internet.com for Rogers. If I used goam.com (which is in your carrier specific forum) it wouldn't even connect.

I then read your post and tested as suggested. PPP headers were not set but I realized in reading hte log back that the APN in my mac was set to goam.com. I then changed this to internet.com and lo and behold it connected just fine.

So basically, i seem to have now connected twice just fine but with an APN that does not match what is listed in your forums. I wondered where your setting came from and if it might have changed. Either way, I'm reasonably OK now, but the acid test is this w/e when I am away from my computer.

Oh, and I thought you might appreciate the reply email from Rogers I got with essentially the same questions I asked here:

Quote:
